Coronado native Jane Mitchell will be using submissions to create a short video highlighting our 50 Years of Summer Concerts. Please see additional details below.
Coronado’s free summer concerts in the park have been going on every summer since 1971 with the exception of 2020. The concerts are not put on by the City of Coronado, as many assume, but by volunteers and a nonprofit organization, the Coronado Promenade Concerts (CPC).
To mark 50 years of music, the CPC is making a video of images from concerts over the years. Since CPC was formed in 2010, by Floyd Ross, long-time organizer of the concerts with his late wife, Mary Carlton-King Ross, there are wonderful images thanks to cell phone technology. However, CPC needs help finding pictures or video capturing memorable moments happening at a concert in the park pre-2010.
Additional Details
Coronado native and resident Jane Mitchell is producing the short video (less than 10 minutes) for CPC. The video will show how summer concerts have been part of life in Coronado. It will be shown for free in several venues. CPC hopes locals will share memorable moments from their lives showing special, historic, and unique elements to add to the concert in the park story.
Examples would be home movies/video from a family gathering, pictures that show you/your children “growing up” over the years at concerts or writing a short story (100 words or less) or a few sentences about something significant that happened at or because of the concerts. Examples are: Birthday, surprise, engagement, the bandstand being built, etc. Many businesses and organizations in town have been long-term sponsors, who could share why they sponsored and pictures of participation through the years.
Submitted pictures will be gratefully accepted but will not be returned so please share a copy. There is no compensation and no guarantee the images submitted will be used. The deadline to submit photos or videos is March 18th, late submissions considered – just don’t be too late.
CPC appreciates everyone’s help in celebrating 50 years of summer music in the park. Anyone with pictures, video, or written memories to share, please submit the highest resolution you can. Digital pictures submitted should be at high resolution JPG. Original “printed” pictures should be scanned at the highest resolution and saved as a JPG. Submit your images with your name, email address and phone with a description of what is in the image or any questions about the format for videos via email to Jane Mitchell at [email protected].
