About CPC
Coronado Promenade Concerts (CPC) produces and manages the Spreckels Park summer concert series that has been a staple of Coronado life for over four decades. CPC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization.
History
The concert series was established in 1970 by Coronado High choir teacher Gene Cech. Mary Carlin King soon joined Cech as the volunteer head of publicity. In 1974, King became coordinator and expanded the number of concerts from four to 12. The concert series continued to grow over the next 10 years.
In 1984, Floyd Ross joined King in helping plan the concerts. King and Ross married in 1990. As a member of the civic organization Coronado Beautiful, Mrs. King-Ross worked on fundraising and planning for the building of the bandstand in Spreckels Park, where the concerts are held. Her civic work earned her three city proclamations, a Rotary community service award, and the Chamber of Commerce’s Lewis Hardy Award.
The husband-and-wife duo independently produced and managed the concert series until 2000 when Mrs. King-Ross passed away. CPC was founded in 2010 by Ross to preserve and perpetuate the legacy that she left behind.
